For every spark of light in this world, there’s a shadow it casts.
Fleur de Nuit is the dark feminine sister to Fleur de Lune, our white floral blend inspired by a night garden beneath the moonlight. She is made of the same fabric, the same foundational materials, but comes alive differently, revealing another side of the feminine as autumn settles in.
My inspiration for Fleur de Nuit was to create a scent that doesn’t scream autumn in the way pumpkin spice does, but instead, captures the beautiful descent of our hemisphere from light into darkness.
Fleur de Nuit is the woman who pairs satin and lace with leather. Her scent is the smoky warmth of tobacco and leather softened by heady white florals, enough softness to draw you in, enough edge to keep you wondering. She is not dark because she is villainous. She does not need to intimidate or seduce. She is comfortable dwelling in her own shadows because she knows that’s where her power lies. She is kind, not nice. Her kindness is earned, not given freely. Above all, she does not apologize for the parts of herself that are wild, raw, or untamed.
In the spirit of autumn, and of welcoming the shorter days and darker nights, Fleur de Nuit is my way of embracing the parts of ourselves we might otherwise keep hidden.
Perhaps this is one of the things darkness gives us: permission to descend into our innermost layers, to face our own shadows, and to find our power in the places we usually keep hidden.
There is a reason we are so fascinated by witches, ghouls, monsters, and all that we celebrate this season. Perhaps they give form to the parts of ourselves we have been taught to suppress, to be afraid of, or make smaller.
This is especially true for women, who have been taught for far too long that our existence is earned through being good, pleasing, beautiful, accommodating.
It certainly has been the story of my life. But after years of growing, learning, and becoming, another expression of femininity has emerged within me. She’s much more alive and free than I ever felt before, even in the most adventurous seasons of my life. This version of womanhood is even more wild, not in the sense of recklessness or hedonism, but wild in the way that nature is: untamed, uncontained, and entirely my own.
I have come to love this new energy that had been missing from my life until now. There’s something about her power, her boundaries, and her protectiveness that allows for more pleasure, more play, more aliveness. The former version of myself wasn’t nice because she didn’t have edges. She was nice out of necessity, to survive in a world that might reject her if she wasn’t. The dark feminine is my fierce protector. Because she has come alive within me, she now watches over me so I can relax, create, and flow.
The dark feminine within us doesn’t ask us to become completely dark. Our shadows are meant to be visited, owned, and integrated—not dwelled in. The paradox is that when we embrace our inner darkness, we can hold even more light. She is our portal to wholeness, inviting us to hold all the parts of ourselves that make us whole. A woman who has integrated her shadows, who is as much witch as she is angel, is finally untouchable.
This season, let us pay homage to the dark feminine. Let us feel her in our veins, her raw power, her sweet sensuality, her unbridled playfulness. Like all of our fragrances, Fleur de Nuit was born from a feeling, an emotional world. She is an invitation for us to honor and embrace our sacred darkness as we watch the seasons change. To remember that we do not have to choose between our light and our shadow. We are most powerful when we allow them both to belong to us.
